SALLY M. PRIETO-CHOMAT is originally from Tampa, Florida. She graduated from the University of Florida (B.S. 2001) and St. Thomas University School of Law (J.D. cum laude 2005). She graduated law school with honors and received three Dean’s Achievement Awards. In her final year of law school, Ms. Prieto-Chomat worked as a Certified Legal Intern for the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office, where she received immediate courtroom exposure. Ms. Prieto-Chomat became a member of the Florida Bar in 2005, and is also admitted to practice in the United States District Courts throughout Florida.

Prior to joining Petros & Elegant in 2009, Ms. Prieto-Chomat was a litigation associate at The Ferraro Law Firm. There, she practiced asbestos, wrongful death, medical malpractice, products liability and commercial litigation at the trial and appellate levels. Her experience included getting a case remanded from the Southern District of Florida based on federal question jurisdiction and prevailing on a contested motion to amend a complaint in the Western District of Virginia in a breach of contract case against a leading domestic furniture importer.

Since joining Petros & Elegant, Ms. Prieto-Chomat has concentrated mainly on serious injury and complex commercial litigation matters in state and federal court. Recently, Ms. Prieto- Chomat assisted in obtaining expedited discovery in the Southern District of Florida on behalf of a foreign corporation with respect to its multi-party commercial action involving its oil business in Guatemala. The underlying claims were pending in the United Kingdom before the High Court of Justice.

Ms. Prieto-Chomat is also very active in the community. She has volunteered and assisted children at a local elementary school with a dance production for Hispanic Heritage month. Ms. Prieto-Chomat also participates in the Neighbors 4 Neighbors Adopt-A-Family 4 The Holidays Program.

  • Correa – Prevailed on a motion to remand based on federal question jurisdiction against a medical supplier in an action brought by the father of four young children who was implanted with human tissue during a spinal fusion that was improperly screened for infectious diseases and was later recalled by the FDA.   • Eisen – Prevailed on a contested motion to amend a complaint against a leading domestic furniture importer in a breach of contract case. (W.D. Va. Case No. 7-06-CV-235)

  • Premier Plaza – Won an emergency motion for disbursement of rent from the court registry for a commercial landlord in a multi-count case. (Eleventh Jud. Cir. Case No.09-43476 CA 25)
